ODOT will hold four Saturday walking tours along 82nd Avenue next month to hear public ideas for improving the corridor.

The tours will help ODOT develop project improvements to address the most common issues in four focus areas on the busy highway. These future projects could include signal upgrades, new turning lanes, pedestrian islands, sidewalk upgrades, improved signage and/or rapid flash beacons.

The walking tours will cover the following four focus areas. All are welcome to attend:

  • South of Bybee – Saturday, March 4, 2017 – 10 a.m. meet at Blue Room Bar at Cartlandia, 8145 S.E. 82nd Ave., 97266, in English and Español.
  • Jade District – Saturday, March 4, 2017 – 2 p.m. meet at JADE/APANO Multicultural Space , 8114 S.E. Division St., 97206, in English, русский, 中文 and Tiếng Việt.
  • Roseway Neighborhood – Saturday, March 11, 2017- 10 a.m. meet at Namaste Indian Cuisine, 8303 N.E. Sandy Blvd., 97220, in English and Español.

For those unable to join in the walking tours, ODOT has an online survey in English (www.surveymonkey.com/r/82ndAveofRoses), Español (https://es.surveymonkey.com/r/82ndSpanish), tiếng Việt (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/82ndVietnamese), 中文 (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/82ndChinese), and Русский (https://ru.surveymonkey.com/r/82ndRussian).

Not too many years ago 82nd Avenue was a rural roadway on the outskirts of Portland. Today it has grown into a major corridor for commuting and commerce. The number of safety hazards have grown with the road.

ODOT is gathering input on safety, mobility, and access improvements for all people using 82nd Avenue between Northeast Killingsworth Street and Southeast Johnson Creek Boulevard. These projects could be feasibly funded and constructed within 10 years; however, no funds have been set aside at this time.
