BPS Releases Draft Report of 82nd Avenue Study

The City of Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability has released a draft report titled 82nd Avenue Study: Understanding Barriers to Development. According to a post on their website, the goals of the study are to:

  • Update our understanding of 82nd Avenue as a “Civic Corridor.”
  • Identify the most strategic locations for public action or investment support for businesses and property development on 82nd Avenue.
  • Generate policy recommendations to address physical and social needs in the corridor, and address barriers to development while managing equity and social issues.

Many of the recommendations are related to code adjustments, but one of the key near-term action items listed is “Jade District and Montavilla should be highest priorities for placemaking investments. They have some market momentum for the development types envisioned in the Civic Corridor concept (recent and proposed development), including adaptive reuse projects.”

Have you considered hosting an international student?

We recently received this information from Pacific International Academy and wanted to pass it along to our neighbors:

Pacific International Academy is looking for local Portland families to host international students. In return, families will receive a generous monthly stipend along with a truly enriching cultural experience.

Pacific International Academy (PIA) has recently relocated to the campus of Warner Pacific University in Southeast Portland and we are looking for host families to join our network. Homestay hosting provides an enriching cultural exchange experience for both the students and the host families. The students greatly value opportunities for communication with family members and truly enjoy being part of the community.

We welcome all types of families to join our homestay program. All host families are expected to provide students with a safe, caring, and comfortable living environment. In addition, host families are required to:

  • Reside within 1 hour and 15 minutes from Warner Pacific University by public transportation, or be willing to drive students to and from campus daily.
  • Provide students with a private furnished bedroom and access to the kitchen, laundry, and bathroom. For some of our programs, students can share a room with another student studying the same program.
  • Provide students with food for three meals per day (cooked meals and/or groceries).
  • Have WiFi Internet access.

A stipend of $700 per month per student is available to the host and we offer long-and short-term homestay placements. To apply to be a PIA host family, families are requested submit by email a PIA Host Family Application and Agreement, available at https://www.piaschools.edu/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/host-family-application.pdf. Once the application is received, PIA will contact the family to schedule an appointment for a home visit.

Warner Pacific is just a short distance north of Foster-Powell at Division and 68th. This is a fantastic opportunity to share our neighborhood with the world and to bring even greater cultural diversity to our community.
