The email also included a bit of information about the boundary for the new Kellogg Middle School —

Kellogg’s boundary will be determined in 2020
The feeder path and school boundaries for the new Kellogg Middle School have not been determined. District-wide boundary decisions will be examined by the PPS Board of Education as part of an Enrollment and Program Balancing effort that is underway now.

Kellogg Middle School Groundbreaking Ceremony on Saturday 1-June

We received the following notice from Portland Public Schools —

The start of construction on a new Kellogg Middle School is only a few
weeks away. To celebrate, an upcoming groundbreaking ceremony will
take place at the site of the new school.

Kellogg Groundbreaking Ceremony will take place on Saturday, June, 1st
PPS will celebrate the start of a new Kellogg Middle School with a
groundbreaking ceremony that takes place from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
at 6909 SE Powell Blvd.  Speakers, local dignitaries and music will
add to the festive atmosphere.  The event also provides the public an
opportunity to meet the project team and learn more about the new
school. Kellogg will be the first entirely new school to be built in
SE Portland in many decades and will provide students and staff with a
state-of-the-art middle school facility.  Kellogg is one of the  first
major construction projects funded by the May 2017 Bond.

Kellogg Rebuild Highlights
The Kellogg site will include over 100,000 square feet of new
construction, including a performing arts stage, a multi-purpose gym
and assembly space, a large, flexible commons space, and dedicated
outdoor learning spaces. The school will be a focal point of its
Southeast Portland neighborhood, offering a new educational center and
resource hub for the community. For more information, view the new Kellogg Rebuild info-flyer (Español |Tiếng Việt | 中文 Русский | Soomaali) or visit the Kellogg rebuild website.

March Update and Groundbreaking Ceremony Scheduled for the Kellogg Middle School

From the Kellogg Rebuild website:

March 2019

The Kellogg Middle School Rebuild Project is moving forward toward construction of an innovative new middle school in SE Portland.  It replaces the 100-year-old Kellogg building that served several generations of students.  Demolition of the old school was completed in 2018 and materials from the that building have been salvaged for re-use in the new building. The final phase of design for the new Kellogg Middle School is underway and will be complete in early 2019.

In January the City of Portland approved the Kellogg project’s Conditional Use and Adjustment application. This opens the door for the project team to submit the Building Permit application in March, which the City has committed to include in their Fast-Track Review Process.
Planning for the new Kellogg Middle School program will be launched by the district in 2019. This process will include hiring a new planning principal.

Going forward construction is anticipated to be complete by the end of 2020. At that time the new building will be outfitted with furnishings, fixtures, and equipment in early 2021 to allow school administrators to train new teachers and staff ahead of the arrival of students in the Fall of 2021.

Ground Breaking Ceremony!

A groundbreaking ceremony is being planned for Saturday, 1-June, at 10:00 AM. We will share more information about this event as it is available.
