Kellogg Middle School Construction Update

Do you live near the Kellogg school construction site? Would you like an opportunity to talk to the project team and the contractor about how they will mitigate construction impacts to the surrounding community?

Kellogg construction update and open house on Wednesday, May 29
If you live near the Kellogg school site, please join us for a construction update open house on Wednesday, May 29 from 4:30 p.m.to 6:30 p.m. in the field at the north end of the Kellogg project site. The open house is an opportunity to meet the Kellogg project team and the contractor. This is an opportunity to learn more about the construction impacts on the community and neighborhood and how the contractor will work to minimize any inconveniences that may occur.

Email received from Portland Public Schools

For everyone else, don’t forget about the groundbreaking ceremony the following Saturday —

The email also included a bit of information about the boundary for the new Kellogg Middle School —

Kellogg’s boundary will be determined in 2020
The feeder path and school boundaries for the new Kellogg Middle School have not been determined. District-wide boundary decisions will be examined by the PPS Board of Education as part of an Enrollment and Program Balancing effort that is underway now.

Email received from Portland Public Schools

The process of drawing the school boundaries has received some coverage in the news —

And if you missed the deconstruction, here’s a video from the project architect, Oh planning+design, architecture

Our Violin Chicken is Departing

We have been planning on posting these photos and video of our local Foster-Powell resident, Linda Hitt, who is otherwise known as the Portland Violin Chicken. But with so much going on in Foster-Powell, this post kept getting set aside while we announced other news. But based on a post from Linda on Nextdoor.com, we decided to get this posted out quickly. Sadly, Linda is moving out of Portland and the Violin Chicken is on a farewell tour.

We wish Linda and the Violin Chicken best of luck in their new city!

Holgate Blvd Speed Limit Set to 25 MPH

We received the following from Portland Bureau of Transportation:

Dear Portland community members,

Tomorrow the Portland Bureau of Transportation will be updating the speed limit on SE Holgate Boulevard. The new speed limit will be 25 mph from SE 28th to 91st avenues and from SE 122nd to 136th avenues. (The segment between SE 91st and 122nd avenues will remain at 30 mph.)

The reduced speed limit supports the City of Portland’s Vision Zero goal to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries. Speed is a factor in nearly half of deadly crashes that occur in Portland. Lower speeds result in fewer crashes. When crashes occur, lower speeds make it more likely that people will survive (see image below). You can learn more about the City of Portland’s Vision Zero work at https://visionzeroportland.com.
