A busy weekend in Foster-Powell!

This weekend there are two great neighborhood association-sponsored events taking place:

The 1st Ever Foster-Powell Street Tree Inventory work day is on Saturday, June 21, from 8:30-noon! This is the first of 4 work days scheduled for this summer.

Volunteers are needed to identify, measure, and map street trees for inclusion in a neighborhood tree plan! We still need volunteers for all 4 inventory work days, and it’s not too late to sign up.

Also, the 7th Annual Foster-Powell Garden Tour, Saturday, June 21, from 10:00am-1:00pm. Maps are available by request from fopogardens@gmail.com, and a limited supply of paper copies are available at the following locations:

  • Holgate Library – 7905 SE Holgate Blvd
  • Apex Wellness Center – 5308 SE Rhone St
  • Foster Powell Community Garden – corner of SE 62nd & Powell Blvd
  • Bar Carlo – 6433 SE Foster Rd

This wonderful volunteer-led event is free! Also, you can purchase raffle tickets for great prizes at each stop. Foster Love bike bells will also be available for sale. Proceeds support next year’s garden tour and other neighborhood association activities.

Foster-Garden Community Garden Work Party- May 10, 10-4

From Vicki Wilson, the Foster-Powell Community Garden organizer:

“Hi friends and neighbors.

There is a nice garden underneath some weeds at SE 62nd and Powell Blvd. Help us find it this Saturday, May 10th from 10-4. Drop by for a while, you don’t have to stay all day. One person and one hour makes a huge difference. See you there.

Thanks for helping us raise money for the garden in April. We should be busy all summer but the plan is ever-changing. It looks like we will build a few beds, work on our water issue and grow a PUMPKIN PATCH this year. We plan to sell the pumpkins in the Fall for another fundraiser. The Oregonian has been working on a story about the garden for a while, watch for a story about the garden in the next month or so!

Also, if you didn’t have enough reasons to volunteer at the garden already…The lovely sisters at Midpoint Cafe have generously offered to hold a community garden volunteer appreciation event at their restaurant some time this summer!

See you in the garden,
